Daily Light - June 28, 2010

Daily Light from the Lighthouse

"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.'"
John 8:31-32

The word believe sounds fairly simple. There are many people that say they believe in God. James tells us that this is really not that great, because Satan and his demons believe in God and tremble at the very mention of Him. There are many people that say they believe in Jesus. However, some believe in the "Jesus" that they have created from their own intellect. The "Jesus" that they believe in is not the one true God but just a religious leader that was kind and said wise things. There are also those that say that they believe that Jesus is God, and they trust Him with their eternal soul. However, they live on this earth as if God only matters when it comes to our eternal destiny and that He has no say in how they live the rest of their years.
Jesus' admonition to those who said that they believed in Him was to continually abide in His Word. Live as He calls on you to live. Walk as He walked. Love as He loved. Be holy as He is holy! Being a disciple is about the daily walk not simply the eternal destiny. The soul of the believer is destined for eternity with Him, but true life is living in the Spirit and daily conquering the flesh. The truth of who Jesus is is only recognizable in the light of His Word. It begins with the work of the Holy Spirit that reveals to us our need of a Savior because of our sinful condition. Through God's grace we believe by faith and experience His work of justification. From there begins this daily walk in God's truth and the work of sanctification that is needed so greatly to cleanse us from the lies by which we have been deceived. It is in this truth that I realize that I am free from sin and the slavery of Satan. I am free to live for Christ and be His child. I no longer live as a pauper, but I am free to live like a child of the King.
May you walk as a disciple of Christ today!
